Albino Long-Fin Bronze Corydoras Care Guide

A captive-bred albino long-fin form of Corydoras aeneus, the Bronze Cory; a hardy, peaceful schooling catfish kept in groups on soft sand.

Overview

This is a captive-bred albino long-fin form of Corydoras aeneus, the Bronze Cory. The wild species reaches 65-75 mm standard length (Seriously Fish). Albino, long-finned and melanistic strains are all documented selective-bred forms; this variant combines the albino and long-fin traits while sharing the biology of the wild fish.

Taxonomy

  • Family: Callichthyidae
  • Genus: Corydoras
  • Scientific name: Corydoras aeneus 'Albino Long-Fin'
  • Note: aquarium-developed albino long-fin form of Corydoras aeneus

Habitat

The parent species occurs widely across South America, from Colombia and Trinidad in the north to the Rio de la Plata in the south (Seriously Fish). The albino long-fin form is produced in captivity and does not occur in nature.

Tank requirements

  • Minimum tank volume: 80 L
  • Temperature: 22-26 °C (within the parent species' 21-27 °C range per Seriously Fish)
  • pH: 6.0-7.5
  • GH: 2-12 °dGH
  • School size: 6 or more individuals
  • Lifespan: 5-10 years

Diet

A foraging omnivore. Seriously Fish notes the species accepts sinking dried foods plus live and frozen items such as bloodworm and Tubifex, and requires a varied diet rather than tank leftovers.

Compatibility

Peaceful and gregarious; Seriously Fish recommends maintaining at least 4-6 individuals. It suits soft-water community aquaria with similarly peaceful species.

Breeding

An egg-depositor. Seriously Fish recommends two males per female and triggering spawning with a 50-70% water change using cooler water; eggs hatch in 3-4 days and fry take microworm and Artemia nauplii.
