Albino Corydoras care guide
Albino Corydoras (Corydoras aeneus var. albino) — minimum tank 60 L, temperature 22-28 °C, pH 6-8.
Overview
The Albino Corydoras is a colour variant of Corydoras aeneus (Bronze Corydoras) selectively bred for an absence of dark pigment. It retains all care requirements of the wild form: a hardy, peaceful armoured catfish from northern South America.
Taxonomy
- Family: Callichthyidae
- Genus: Corydoras
- Scientific name: Corydoras aeneus var. albino
- Common synonyms: Albino Cory
Habitat
The wild form is widespread in slow-flowing streams, swamps and shallow ponds from Trinidad and the Guianas south through the Amazon and La Plata drainages.
Tank requirements
- Minimum tank volume: 60 L (15.9 US gal)
- Adult size: 5-7 cm
- Temperature: 22-28 °C (72-82 °F)
- pH: 6-8
- GH: 2-20 °dGH
- Water flow: low
- Lifespan: 5-8 years
- School size: ≥6 individuals
Diet
An omnivorous bottom feeder. Offer sinking pellets, granules and a variety of small live or frozen foods (bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp). Sand substrates allow the species to forage naturally without damaging its barbels.
Compatibility
A peaceful shoaling fish that should be kept in groups of at least six. Compatible with a wide range of peaceful community species; avoid keeping with large or aggressive cichlids.
Breeding
Egg-laying. Cool water changes and conditioning on live foods stimulate spawning; adhesive eggs are placed on glass and broad leaves. The albino variant breeds as readily as the wild form.
