Upside-Down Catfish care guide
Upside-Down Catfish (Synodontis nigriventris) — minimum tank 80 L, temperature 22-27 °C, pH 6-7.5.
Overview
The Upside-Down Catfish (Synodontis nigriventris) is a small mochokid catfish from the Congo basin, named for its habitual inverted swimming position. The ventral surface is darker than the dorsal surface — a reversal of normal countershading consistent with its inverted lifestyle.

Habitat
Native to slow-flowing tributaries and flooded forests of the central Congo basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, often resting beneath overhanging branches and submerged wood.

Diet
An omnivore. Offer sinking pellets, flakes and live or frozen foods (bloodworms, daphnia). The species feeds easily from the underside of the water surface or from leaves.
Compatibility
A peaceful shoaling catfish best kept in groups of three or more in a planted aquarium with hiding places. Compatible with peaceful African and soft-water community species; avoid pairing with aggressive cichlids.
Breeding
Cave-spawning has been reported in captivity. Spawning occurs in narrow cavities in soft, slightly acidic water; the male guards the brood.
