Axelrodia riesei is a species in the family Characidae. A tiny gem from Colombia with an intense deep ruby-red body coloration that seems to glow under aquarium lighting. One of the smallest tetras available, it thrives in mature, heavily planted tanks with dark substrate and tannin-stained water that enhances its vibrant color. Shy at first but becomes bold in larger schools.

Habitat
Endemic to the Río Meta and Río Manacacías drainages of the upper Orinoco basin in Colombia. Inhabits soft, acidic, slow-flowing forest streams. A tiny characin that displays a deep ruby-red colouration in mature, well-conditioned specimens.
