Datnioides quadrifasciatus, the wide-bar datnoid, is a predatory tigerfish with broad dark vertical bars on a golden background. It is hardy in slightly salty water. In current taxonomy this name is treated as a synonym of Datnioides polota, so descriptions of the two largely overlap.

Habitat

The taxon occurs from eastern India and Bangladesh east through Indochina and Indonesia to New Guinea. It inhabits brackish waters of tidal lagoons and estuaries as well as freshwater rivers and lakes.

Diet

It is predatory, feeding on other fishes, crustaceans and aquatic insect larvae. In the aquarium it takes meaty and live foods, fed roughly every two days.

Compatibility

It is a semi-aggressive predator occupying the middle of the water column. Suitable tankmates include monos and archerfish of similar size; small fish should be avoided as prey.
