Indo Tiger Datnoid Breeding Guide

Datnioides microlepis is a large Indonesian predator not bred in home aquaria; only its wild spawning season is documented.

Overview

The Indo tiger datnoid is a large predatory fish endemic to Sumatra and Kalimantan in Indonesia. Wikipedia reports a maximum published total length of 65 cm, making it the largest species of Datnioides, and lists it as IUCN Least Concern, though overfishing and pollution threaten some populations. It lives in large lowland rivers, sometimes entering brackish water, and favours areas with submerged branches and flooded forest.

Spawning Behavior & Trigger

Documented reproductive information is limited to the wild. In the Kapuas River, local fishermen have observed that this species spawns in April and May. No captive spawning, courtship behaviour, egg data or fry-rearing records are available in the reviewed sources, so no aquarium breeding protocol can be given.
