Cryptocoryne cordata 'Rosanervig' Care Guide

Cryptocoryne cordata 'Rosanervig' is a pink-veined cultivar of a Southeast Asian water trumpet, grown as a midground plant in soft, mildly acidic water.

Overview

Cryptocoryne cordata 'Rosanervig' is a cultivar of Cryptocoryne cordata, a species of the genus Cryptocoryne native to Southeast Asia. The 'Rosanervig' selection is distinguished by olive-green leaves marked with pink to rose-coloured veins, an unusual contrast among crypts. It is used as a midground plant.

Taxonomy

  • Family: Araceae
  • Order: Alismatales
  • Genus: Cryptocoryne
  • Scientific name: Cryptocoryne cordata 'Rosanervig'

Habitat

Cryptocoryne cordata occurs in Southeast Asia, including the Malay Peninsula. Like other members of the genus, it grows in streams and rivers of lowland forest and in seasonally inundated habitats, alternating between submersed and emersed growth with changing water levels.

Tank requirements

  • Temperature: 22-28 °C (72-82 °F)
  • pH: 5.5-7.0
  • GH: 2-10 °dGH
  • Lighting: medium
  • CO2: not required
  • Growth rate: slow
  • Maximum height: about 25 cm
  • Placement: midground

Planting and care

The cultivar grows best in soft, mildly acidic water and a nutrient-rich substrate; CO2 is not required but consistent moderate fertilization supports the pink venation and steady growth. Crypts of the cordata complex are sensitive to abrupt change, so leaf melt may follow planting or relocation, especially into fresh substrate; the plant recovers from the rhizome once acclimatised.

Propagation

Propagation is by runners. Daughter plants form on underground runners around the parent rosette and can be separated and replanted once large enough.
