Gold Laser / Orange Stripe Cory (Corydoras sp. CW010) Care Guide
An undescribed Peruvian Corydoras of the bronze (aeneus) group with a bright dorsal stripe, traded as CW010 Gold Laser, Gold Stripe or Orange Stripe.
Overview
CW010 is an undescribed callichthyid catfish native to Peru, recognised by its metallic body and a bright gold-to-orange stripe running along the upper flank. It is sold under several trade names, including Gold Laser, Gold Stripe and Peru Orange Stripe. It is a peaceful, bottom-dwelling shoaling fish suited to community aquariums.
Taxonomy
- Family: Callichthyidae
- Genus: Corydoras (recently reclassified to Osteogaster on PlanetCatfish)
- Scientific name: Corydoras sp. CW010
- Status: undescribed aquarist 'CW-number' line; sources treat it as a colour form likely linked to the Corydoras aeneus / melanotaenia group, not a formally described species
Habitat
Care references give Peru as the country of origin. Like related bronze-group corys, it is a soft-water bottom fish that forages over fine substrates. Many trade specimens are tank-bred.
Tank requirements
- Minimum tank volume: 80 L
- Temperature: 22-26 °C (72-79 °F)
- pH: 6.0-7.5
- GH: 2-12 °dGH
- School size: 6 or more individuals
- Lifespan: 5-10 years
- Substrate: soft sand to protect the barbels
Diet
An omnivore that feeds by sifting fine sand with its barbels. Suitable foods include sinking catfish pellets, granules and flake, supplemented with frozen or live items such as bloodworm and brine shrimp. A varied diet is recommended.
Compatibility
Temperament is peaceful. It is a bottom-level shoaler best kept in groups of six or more and is compatible with most calm community fish, including dwarf cichlids and small tetras and rasboras. Aggressive cichlids should be avoided.
Breeding
It is an egg-depositor; breeding is rated intermediate. Hobbyist reports note that different 'laser/stripe' Corydoras lines have shown distinct fry development, so mixing closely similar CW forms is discouraged if breeding is intended.
