Oliotius oligolepis is a species in the family Cyprinidae. A peaceful, subtly colored barb with iridescent scales that create a checkerboard-like pattern. Males develop orange-red fins while females are more subdued. An excellent community fish that rarely causes problems with tank mates.

Habitat

Native to Sumatra, Indonesia, where it inhabits clear, slow-flowing forest streams and rivers. Forms loose groups in well-oxygenated water; males show a darker chequered pattern along the flanks. Formerly placed in the genus Puntius.
