Habitat
Endemic to the southern peninsula of Sulawesi (Celebes), Indonesia, where it inhabits clear coastal and lowland streams. Despite the common name, it belongs to the family Telmatherinidae (sail-fin silversides), not to the true rainbowfishes (Melanotaeniidae).
