Habitat
Endemic to Lake Tanganyika, inhabiting open sandy zones in shallow water. Sifts sand for invertebrates and feeds on small benthic prey. A sand-dwelling cichlid; males build sand-crater spawning sites and are maternal mouthbrooders. Requires a fine sand substrate.
