Habitat
Native to the Amazon basin, occurring in Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Paraguay and northern Argentina. The type locality lies along the Rio Negro. Heart-shaped leaves contain air pockets that maintain buoyancy.
