Habitat
Endemic to Lake Malawi, inhabiting sandy and intermediate zones. Feeds by sifting sand for invertebrates and snails. Recognised by a diagonal stripe across the body; a maternal mouthbrooder. The genus Mylochromis comprises numerous lake endemics.
