Overview
Liobagrus reinii is a small torrent catfish of the family Amblycipitidae, described by Hilgendorf in 1878. It has four pairs of barbels and a scaleless body, and lives a secretive, largely nocturnal life among rocks. It is harmless to humans.

Habitat
According to FishBase and Wikipedia, Liobagrus reinii is endemic to Japan, where it occurs in temperate freshwater streams. It is captured from under cobbles and boulders, in crevices in bedrock, and in clumps of roots of bankside vegetation.

Diet
Liobagrus reinii is an insectivorous predator with a trophic level of about 3.2 (FishBase). In aquaria it is fed once daily on meaty foods such as frozen invertebrates and small live foods.
Compatibility
This bottom-dwelling catfish appreciates hiding spots and a gentle current. As a temperate species it is best kept in unheated, well-oxygenated tanks with similarly cool-water companions such as barbs and loaches. Very small fish and shrimp may be eaten and should be avoided.
