Habitat
Native to the Río Paraguay and lower Paraná basins of Paraguay, southern Brazil and northern Argentina. Inhabits shallow, slow streams and oxbow pools with dense leaf litter; tolerates cooler temperatures than most Amazonian Apistogramma. The genus comprises around 100 described species, with many more awaiting description.
