Adolfoi Corydoras care guide
Adolfoi Corydoras (Corydoras adolfoi) — minimum tank 60 L, temperature 24-28 °C, pH 5-7.
Overview
Adolfo’s Corydoras (Corydoras adolfoi) is a slender armoured catfish from the upper Rio Negro basin in Brazil. The species displays a striking head pattern of a black eye mask, a creamy white forehead and an orange shoulder blotch.
Taxonomy
- Family: Callichthyidae
- Genus: Corydoras
- Scientific name: Corydoras adolfoi
- Common synonyms: Adolfo's Cory
Habitat
Native to soft, very acidic blackwater tributaries of the upper Rio Negro in Amazonas state, Brazil, with sandy substrates and dense leaf litter that stains the water with tannins.
Tank requirements
- Minimum tank volume: 60 L (15.9 US gal)
- Adult size: 4-5.7 cm
- Temperature: 24-28 °C (75-82 °F)
- pH: 5-7
- GH: 1-8 °dGH
- Water flow: moderate
- Lifespan: 5-8 years
- School size: ≥6 individuals
Diet
A bottom-feeding omnivore. Offer sinking pellets and granules supplemented with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, daphnia and microworm. The species sifts sand for small invertebrates.
Compatibility
A peaceful shoaling species. Maintain a group of at least six on a soft sandy substrate. Suitable tankmates include small tetras, pencilfish and peaceful dwarf cichlids that share the same blackwater preferences.
Breeding
An egg-depositor. Cool, slightly acidic water changes condition the pair; adhesive eggs are placed on plant leaves or tank glass. Parents typically do not consume their own eggs but rearing is easier in a separate fry tank.
