Acrostomus Devario (Devario acrostomus) Breeding Guide

Breeding Devario acrostomus follows the Devario egg-scattering pattern: sexing, conditioning and an egg-trap spawning tank. Species-specific spawning detail is not documented.

Overview

Devario acrostomus is a danioin found in the Nam Leuk river drainage in Laos and adjacent northeastern Thailand, reaching about 75-80 mm standard length. It originates in pristine, well-oxygenated habitats and needs spotless water and moderate flow. No dedicated spawning account exists in the whitelisted sources, so the steps below follow the documented Devario breeding pattern and are flagged as genus-based.

Sexing

Mature females are rounder-bellied, less colourful and a little larger than males. This is the main sexing cue available for the species.

Conditioning

Following the genus approach, condition adults together on varied live and frozen foods in clean water until females fill with roe, then select a pair for spawning.

Breeding Setup

As with other Devario, use a dimly lit spawning tank with a mesh or marble base so eggs fall out of reach of the adults. Keep the water slightly acidic to neutral and soft, matching the species' general parameters (pH 6.0-7.0), with a sponge filter for oxygenation and gentle movement.

Spawning Behavior & Trigger

Devario species are egg-scattering free spawners with no parental care. Species-specific triggers for D. acrostomus are not published; the genus pattern relies on conditioning and warm, soft, clean water.

Egg & Fry Care

Following the genus pattern, remove adults after spawning, anticipate incubation around 24-36 hours, and begin fry on Paramecium before progressing to Artemia nauplii and microworm.
